About

Andreas Dietl was born in Switzerland in 1957. After graduating from medical school in Zürich, Dietl began immediately working in the field as a general surgeon.

And after three years, Dietl continued his work in medicine field as a paediatric surgeon, a role he carried for the next 40 years. In that time, he also began working internationally, which led him to becoming the head of the paediatric surgery department at the hospital of Siem Reap located in Cambodia.

Whilst living in Cambodia, Dietl began documenting the two major activities that occupied his life, the work at the hospital and the dance school nearby. Two projects that he is now developing under the title ‘The Hospital’ and ‘Robam’, respectively.

Always a passion, photography has now taken a place in the centre stage of Dietl’s life as he hopes to complete both projects and with them honour both his life experience, as well the memory of those involved and captured through his lenses.
